Colonel William Richardson Revolutionary Trail

At the roots of Caroline County, Maryland, lies a true Revolutionary War hero -- Colonel William Richardson of Gilpin Point..

Richardson led the movement to create Caroline County in 1774.  Two years later, he commanded the Eastern Shore Battalion of the “Maryland Flying Camp” in a famous charge at the Battle of Harlem Heights under General Washington.  Richardson was later entrusted to safeguard the American treasury from the British.

This short trip leads you to explore the tomb site of Colonel William Richardson, the “Father of Caroline County”. The simple tomb is situated on a peaceful riverside parcel of public land at the confluence of the Tuckahoe and Choptank Rivers.
