Tuckahoe River Public Landing

This public landing is located in the “hometown” of the Wheeler Transportation Line, which served the Tuckahoe River with passenger and cargo-carrying steamboats in the 1880s and 1890s. The former home of Captain C.C. Wheeler is still standing in town just up the hill from the public landing.  Travel downriver from here along the final stretch that was too narrow for steamboats and was served by lighters and barges from the uppermost steamboat landing at Wayman Wharf.
