Choptank River Trip - Pirate’s Treasure

Pirates Treasure

Some say Captain Kidd hid in narrow, winding Watts Creek. Some say that Blackbeard dropped a treasure chest into the mouth of Watts Creek, and that magical, ferocious fish protect it.

Others say that neither Captain Kidd nor Blackbeard ever sailed into the Chesapeake Bay, and certainly not up the Choptank River to Watts Creek.

If not, then where did these tales come from?  How did Watts Creek become mixed up in the legends of these notorious pirates?

Perhaps the answer lies in the story of a real Chesapeake Bay pirate, Roger Makeele.

This Trip Story introduces you to the real pirates Edward Teach (Blackbeard) and Roger Makeele.   And two shipwrecks -- one in the Carolina sounds, and another in lowly Watts Creek, off the Choptank River.
