Choptank &Tuckahoe Rivers Aerial Photos Viewer

Welcome to the Choptank and Tuckahoe Rivers Aerial Photographs Viewer, created by the Old Harford Town Maritime Center.

The Viewer presents aerial photographs taken in April 2003 of the Choptank River and its main tributary, the Tuckahoe River, located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  It is a sampler for the CD that is available for purchase from the Maritime Center.

The Viewer lets you click on a map of the entire Choptank River watershed to choose the river section that interests you. The maps of each river section are detailed USGS topographic maps that show where, and in what direction, aerial photos were taken. Sections of river can also be selected by name, using the navigation buttons on the left.

The topographic maps of each river section also show the names and locations of historic river sites that are described in the Maritime Center’s online Choptank and Tuckahoe Riverguide.

(Please note: The detailed topographic maps are large image files -- up to 2 MB in size. They will take 1-3 minutes to download with a high-speed connection, and 10-12 minutes with a 56K dialup connection.  If you have a slow connection, you may want to order the CD.)

Read below for more complete instructions on how to use this Viewer. If you have questions or comments about the Viewer, please contact Don Barker, OHTMC volunteer webmaster and creator of Viewer, at info@riverheritage.org.

1. The River Sections Map shows the entire length of the Choptank and Tuckahoe Rivers, from Bay to tidal head.  Click the river section where you want to see aerial photos. Or, use the river section navigation buttons on the left.

2. On the detailed Topographc Map of each river section, scroll or page your browser left-right and up-down to find the river locations where photos were taken.

3. Click the number which shows the location and direction of the aerial photo you want to see. The aerial photo will pop up in a new browser window.  You can resize and re-position the photo window.

4. The aerial photos on the CD are very large format (1600x1200 pixels). The view them best, resize the browser windows and place them side by side.  The photo window will update to show a different photo each time you click a different number on  the map.
